I’ve always been a Montessori convert. I’ve tried to raise my children the Montessori way since I’d like them to be independent in their actions. One Montessori toy my children enjoy playing is the Busyboard Toddler Book. It’s a great toy because it’s non-electronic and it helps my kids with real-life physical activities.
This particular Montessori busyboard toddler book that I found on Amazon has several pages. My two kids, 2-year old and 4-year old, both play with it, but in different ways. My older son is more adept with his motor skills, so he gets through the binding buckles easily. He has more difficulty, however, with the shoelaces and the buttons. I’m also starting to teach him the concept of time with the play-clock that comes with it. He also likes to take out all the letters and then re-arrange them one by one alphabetically by singing his ABCs.
My younger son, however, is a little behind his older brother in terms of motor skills, since he he is only two years old. So for this book, he plays a lot with the matching shapes. I had to cut the matching shapes because they were connected to the book. He also loves playing with the clock, saying tick tock tick tock, but it’s too early to teach him the concept of time. He also enjoys playing with the gears. In time, this book will help my two year old develop motor skills in buttoning and buckling.
This Montessori busyboard is a great book to have in your arsenal of toys. Although it won’t replace the cars that my kids love, they play with this toy without knowing they are learning to practice their motor skills. It has great exercises, both for 2 and 4 year olds, and I think it would make a perfect gift for kids from 2 to 5 years old.
